December rush for Covered Cal

Phone calls and web visits to California's health insurance exchange are rising at a furious pace as the Dec. 23 deadline for sign-ups looms. California Democrats haven't managed to convince the Attorney General's Office that a Republican knockoff of the Covered California web site needs to come off line. The deadline for enrollment in Covered California policies that take effect Jan. 1 has been rolled back a week, to Dec. 23. The state Obamacare operation announced Nov. 21 that shoppers in the individual insurance marketplace would get more time to sign up for its health insurance policies. Covered California scored more than a third of the enrollments under the nation's Affordable Care Act in its first month, federal numbers show. The state health insurance exchange indicated 30,830 enrollments were logged during October. Federal numbers, however, showed 35,364 California enrollments through Nov. 2.
