Health insurance seekers who were frustrated in their last-minute attempts to sign up at Covered California have a reprieve. Covered Cal swamped by signees

Covered California continues to see a surge in enrollments, with 53,510 people signing up for healthcare policies in the three-day period of Dec. 16-18. Customers who buy insurance policies through Covered California won't be getting extra time to make their first premium payments. Counties in the Los Angeles and San Francisco regions accounted for almost half of healthcare insurance signups in the first two months of Obamacare operation in California. Enrollment in Covered California health care plans doubled in November, officials said, with 78,377 people signing up for coverage. The total number of enrollments as of Dec. 7 was put at 156,143.
