Web traffic brouhaha at Covered Cal

Covered California found itself backtracking after initial reports that its web site surpassed 5 million visitors Oct. 1, the first day of operation. The actual figure was about 514,000 unique visitors, it turns out. There were about 5 million page views, apparently. California's health exchange web site struggled with the flood of insurance shoppers on day 1, with the enrollment section being taken down overnight for maintenance. Covered Cal goal: 700,000 signups

California's health insurance exchange forecasts as many as 700,000 individuals will sign up for coverage and subsidies in its first six-month enrollment period.
