Covered Cal web site ailing again

Covered California web siteReports of new troubles on the Covered California continue to come in, just weeks before the start of open enrollment for the Obamacare operation’s second year.

One broker told the Sacramento Business Journal that he’d been unable to make changes to health insurance plans for clients for several weeks. He called it “the same nightmare as last year.”

While CoveredCalifornia.com had its share of issues in the initial enrollment period under the Affordable Care Act, the state web site performed significantly than the federal Obamacare web site.

An email sent to insurance brokers late last week said the problem was being addressed.

The Covered California’s online enrollment system buckled under the first wave of signups in October 2013, and then experienced an outage of more than five days in February.

Open enrollment for the 2015 year begins Nov. 15 and ends Feb. 15. Brokers and consumers need to access the system in order to make changes throughout the year for various reasons, including “life changes.”

“We are working with great urgency to fix the problem,” a Covered California spokesman said.
